Here's a little about myself:
I reluctantly moved to Jackson in 1973, at age 13, and graduated from Jackson High in 1979. I attended a few junior colleges, got married, became a travel agent, coached volleyball, and had a couple of kids until I decided what exactly it was I was going to do with my life. I graduated from Sac State with a Bachelors of Science in Recreation Administration in 1993, and obtained my Master's of Science Degree in 1994.
While completing my course of study, I single-handedly administered the first recreation needs survey for Amador County in 1984 or 85. I stuffed surveys in every single property tax bill, tabulated the results, and made a presentation to the Board of Supervisors who told me, "...more study was needed." Frustrated, but undeterred I went on to get my Master's Degree, because I knew in my heart of hearts that Amador County needed a parks and recreation department of some sort. During my senior year and throughout my graduate year I was employed full-time by the Calif. Dept. of Parks and Recreation, where I was responsible for the determination of the economic impacts of state parks on local communities, learning to speak economics and statistics. I retired from the State after three years to stay home with my kids.
By 1995 there wasn't a recreation department in the county. I began coaching volleyball at Amador High and substitute teaching. By 2,000, I had obtained a teaching credential for special education. I taught for the Amador County Office of Education until I was offered my dream job, in this position.
I have two grown boys, Lukas and Markus, a terrific loving and supportive husband, Jim to whom I have been married for 25 years.
ACRA's mission is to maximize recreation opportunities for all the people in all the areas of Amador County by working collaboratively and thinking regionally.
